Service All Around!
Service is an integral part of what APO and its members stand for! Our organization strives to put service first and foremost, and always endeavors to give back to our fraternity, our campus, and the greater community. We work with a wide variety of organizations and community groups that need our help. A few of our recent collaborations include:
River Food Pantry:
http://www.riverfoodpantry.org/
We help recipients ‘shop’ in the uniquely designed food pantry that lets the recipients feel like they are in a grocery store and allows choice. We also help cook and serve meals, sort through clothing donations and volunteer at concession stands during UW football and basketball games to help fund the food pantry.
Coventry Village:
We partner with this retirement community to hold events like the Fall Ball, an event that gives residents the chance to get dressed up, eat dinner and participate in a fun prom-like dance with our members.
American Family Children’s Hospital:
http://www.uwhealth.org/american-family-childrens-hospital/american-family-childrens-hospital/10260
We have succeeded in funding a new ChemoDuck program (www.chemoduck.org) on the oncology floor of the children’s hospital to help the children understand what they will be going through and help with the coping process.
We also help to donate needed items to the hospital and associated Ronald McDonald House, as well as create crafts for the children to do while they are there.
Wisconsin Public Television and Radio:
http://wpt.org/ and http://wpr.org/
We volunteer with WPT and WPR to help with televised fundraising events as well as local events that they hold like the Quilt Expo and Science Festival.
Goodman Center:
http://www.goodmancenter.org/
We have recently started working with this community center that serves Madison’s East Side to hold food drives to support it’s food panty. We will also be helping to build a park in East Madison in the coming months.
Alzheimer's Association
We helped in various ways, including providing publicity for a candlelight vigil and helping to decorate at some of their functions, including their annual Mardi Gras Ball.
Big Brother's - Big Sister's
We helped with administrative tasks, as in providing people for data entry to populate a database.
Campus Clean Up
We picked up trash and general campus beautification.
Random Acts of Kindness
At least once every month we go to random places around campus and do something nice. You might have seen us handing out candy outside of Van Hise or on top of Bascom Hill.
Interfaith Hospitality Network
We provided decorations and help them decorate for the season...(Halloween, Valentine's Day, etc). We've also taken the families on day trips to the Children's Museum and Ella's Deli.
Many more events including: campus cleanups, State street restaurant fundraisers, Henry Vilas Zoo events, volunteering at the Campus Women’s Center and MUCH more!!
